With WrestleMania 42 set for Las Vegas next month and Lesnar issuing an open challenge for the event, many assumed the company was quietly building toward his final match. That assumption only grew stronger when rumors surfaced claiming Lesnar had told WWE officials he needed to win his retirement bout.
That claim has now been addressed directly. Sean Ross Sapp said on Fightful Select’s Debunkathon that Ibou of Self Made Sessions never reported Lesnar demanding victory in his last match.
The story had gained traction over the past few days, but it has been shut down as inaccurate. At this point, there is no confirmed evidence that Brock has attached any must-win condition to the end of his career.
Retirement buzz fades as WrestleMania 42 plans move forward
Brock has not wrestled since the Men’s Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. Roman Reigns won that match and is now preparing to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42.
On SmackDown, Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion and is set to defend the title against Randy Orton after their contract signing.
With the retirement rumor losing steam, focus shifts back to who might step up to Lesnar at WrestleMania. Sam Roberts recently suggested Seth Rollins as a possible opponent on his Notsam Wrestling podcast. He pointed to Rollins attacking Paul Heyman on RAW as a storyline spark that could pull Lesnar into the mix.
Rollins gave up the World Heavyweight Championship last year due to injury and returned at Elimination Chamber 2026. Since then, he has wasted no time making an impact. A showdown between Rollins and Lesnar would carry history, intensity, and real stakes without needing retirement drama to sell it.
